With Bonzo Madrid, CJ Calhoun tries to take that feeling, boil it down to its essence, and drop the listener straight in. Steadied on a soulful backbone, he combines layers of lush guitar and magnetic vocals that not only command attention, but settle deep in your marrow.
Bonzo Madrid shifted into focus for the Kansas native after his former band, Cowboy Indian Bear, parted ways in the fall of 2014. Having performed various roles in full bands for more than a decade, Calhoun was intrigued by the uncharted territory of solo work – and set out to discover what possibilities it held. He’s recently finished his debut LP “Worry”, to be released November 4th, 2016 digitally for donation, with all proceeds from the first month being donated to the Lawrence, Kansas’ Arts-Based social service agency Van Go. High Dive Records has partnered with our friends at Whatever Forever Tapes to joint release the Worry Album on limited edition cassette. The cassette contains the entire Worry album on Side A, and the B side contains a bonus EP.
